N.E.A.T/ Neat Eats and Treats

Proper nutrition is critical to ensuring optimal growth of our body. The body runs off of Carbohydrates, Protein and Fat and needs a constant source of these nutrients throughout the day to remain in a healthy and balanced state. This is why it is important to be aware of the foods you are putting into your body. All food has nutritional value, however certain foods are known to be beneficial and more nutritious than others. Try to eat foods that are “better” sources of these nutrients such as grains, fruits, veggies, lean meats such as tuna or chicken, and dairy products such as milk or yogurt to give you a balanced and complete meal. These foods are better for you than junk food options such as pizza, cookies and ice cream which should not be eaten regularly but can be eaten as a “treat” in moderation. Make nutrition fun by trying to eat the rainbow colors in fruits and veggies everyday.

Track my Activity!

Tracking your daily physical activity you participate in is important for determining how much energy your body needs from the food you eat, based on the amount of energy you are using during your physical activity. Performing physical activity on a daily basis helps keep your body healthy and helps keep your muscles strong. Tracking your physical activity will allow you to see what your energy needs should be. It is important to provide your body with the proper amount of nutrients and energy from the food you eat to ensure that your body will be able to grow and work properly.

Track My Servings!

Tracking your daily servings from the different food groups is important for being able to eat a well balanced diet. Your plate should consist of grains, fruits, veggies, meat, beans and dairy. Tracking and recording these food groups on your scorecard will help you to see how much of the recommended amount of each group you are eating each day. It is important to get a certain amount of each food group every day. The amounts of each food group you should aim for can be found at the top of your scorecard for each particular food group.
